6 Unique Venues You’ll Only Find in Huntsville
Posted by: Sarah Lawen Smith Aug 03, 2024

There is something about finding that perfect venue that just makes all that hard event planning work come together. When looking at venues, there are so many different types and aesthetics to choose from. Conference rooms, hotel ballrooms, restaurant event rooms, public parks, private wedding venues. . . All these venue types have their merit, but sometimes you want to step away from the “been there, done that” and look for a venue that is truly unique. Great news! If it’s a unique venue you want, Huntsville is the place to look! Huntsville has so many hidden-gem venues within its borders that it would be impossible to list them all, but here are 6 unique venues that you’ll only find here in Rocket City.

U.S. Space and Rocket Center

The U.S. Space and Rocket Center is perhaps the most iconic Huntsville landmark with the replica Saturn V rocket stretching up from the horizon over the Davidson Center for Space Exploration. This museum is a tribute to Huntsville’s numerous contributions to space exploration, housing over 1,500 authentic items in its space hardware collection. What many people don’t know is the museum is also open to hosting a variety of private events from corporate retreats to wedding receptions. Event hosts can rent out classrooms in the training facility, both theater facilities, the main exhibit area, and even the Saturn V Hall for guest capacities up to 1,000. Packages also include in-house catering. This is the perfect venue for lovers of STEM, space, and adventure.

Huntsville Museum of Art

The Huntsville Museum of Art sits in the heart of downtown Huntsville, nestled right up against the city’s beautiful Big Spring Park. This stunning museum strives to enrich the lives of the public through a connection with visual art. This 75,034 square foot facility is home to over 3,200 original art pieces, including works by James McNeill Whistler, Reginald Marsh, and Andy Warhol. The museum has four event spaces available for rent, including its beautiful Loretta Spencer Hall with built-in stage and large windows looking out into the park. This venue can host events as small as 18 guests up to over 200, and it is the perfect space for art lovers to celebrate.

Orion Amphitheatre

The youngest venue on this list, the Orion Amphitheatre opened in 2022 as Huntsville’s largest permanent stage, and it has since been featured as one of Billboard’s global Top Music Venues of 2024. Since opening, the Orion has hosted numerous concerts, cultural experiences, markets, and art displays. Music and culture fans will love hosting their private events of any size in one of six spaces, including the Artist Meadow, artist dressing rooms, and the Dome. Guests can even walk where numerous rock, folk, country, and blues artists have performed by attending an event on the stage itself.

Huntsville Botanical Gardens

The Huntsville Botanical Gardens is the perfect place to retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life to enjoy the beauty and tranquility of nature. The garden’s mission is to improve the quality of life in our region by connecting people with plants, teaching the public about plant science and conservation and upkeeping a diverse collection of native flora. The Huntsville Botanical Gardens is a popular venue for both corporate events and weddings with numerous locations on-site available for rent, including its Celebration Garden, Carriage House, Nichols Arbor, and Isenberg Grand Hall with space to accommodate up to 450 guests. Hosting a birthday party? The gardens even have ready-made children’s birthday packages that include garden admission for 30 guests.

EarlyWorks Constitution Hall Park

Part of the Earlyworks Museums, the Constitution Hall Park sits on the site where, in 1819, 44 delegates gathered in a vacant cabinet shop to sign the Alabama constitution, officially admitting it as the 22nd state of the Union. Guests to the park enjoy guided tours that take them back in time to life in the 1800s with live historic actors and local artisans. When the park is closed to the public, it opens its pavilion, arbor, and lawn to private events, providing an open-air venue for up to 150 guests. Lovers of history and a bit of whimsy will enjoy this unique space sequestered in a 19th century replica town square.

Campus No. 805

Campus No. 805, as its name suggests, was an active schoolyard from 1951 to 2009, hosting classes from the University of Alabama, S.R. Butler High School, and Roy L. Stone Middle School. After Stone Middle School closed its doors, the building was purchased by a developer in 2014 to be turned into the brewery and entertainment campus it is today. The campus is home to breweries, restaurants, small businesses, and adult-geared entertainment including axe throwing, arcade bars, vintage pinball, and virtual golf. The campus is also home to the Stone Event Center, over 13,000 combined square feet of space across three different spaces – the campus cafeteria, the audio-visual room, and the teachers’ lounge – and it is able to accommodate events as small as 18 guests and as large as 1,125. The campus also provides in-house catering through Bubba’s Silver Spoon.
