Meet The Staff



Phyllis Mullins Anderson (1983)
General Manager and Corporate President

Daughter of company founders Mr. and Mrs. Phillip P. Mullins, Phyllis is the visionary behind Mullins Special Occasions. She began working with her brother Kevin in 1983, serving as bookkeeper when the party and equipment stores were both located together at 800 Holmes Avenue. Phyllis saw potential in the Party and Events industry and founded what is now known as Mullins Special Occasions.

Phyllis holds a Bachelor's in Business Administration from Faulkner University and also is a Certified Rental Manager (CRM), having been the first female to complete the curriculum at Appalachian State University. She is the wife of the late E. Philip Anderson and has 2 adult children and 14 grandchildren. Phil and Phyllis enjoyed riding motorcycles with the Christian Motorcyclist Associates, and Phyllis now spends quite a bit of time at her Tennessee farm or traveling with family. Philip Anderson (1996)
Operations Manager, Corporate Secretary/Treasurer

Having grown up around the rental business, Philip shows no stress in making your event rentals go smooth. Philip joined the Mullins team in 1996, when he began as a part-time Delivery and Yard Assistant. He quickly found out that event rental was in his blood and joined the staff full-time later that year, advancing through the ranks to Operations Manager before purchasing a portion of the business in 2017. Philip enjoys all aspects of teh special events rental industry, and has specialized in corporate groundbreaking events lately.

Philip holds certifications from rental-specific programs such as Top-Tec Tent School, has earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Faulkner University, and has completed seminary coursework from Slidell Baptist Seminary. Philip and his wife Heather have four children, volunteer in the preschool ministries of Willowbrook Church, and enjoy supporting organizations such as Kids to Love and Good Samaritans Ministry.  Philip and Heather have published numerous articles, both in and out of the rental industry, and have also published a poetry book. Shirley Jones (1998)
Washroom Supervisor

If you've ever wondered who handles all the dirty dishes and linens returned from special events, look no further:  Ms. Shirley Jones is the woman for the job! Shirley began as a Delivery Driver in 1998, moved into the washrooms later that year, and now supervises the Linen and Dish Sanitation. She has read up on all the stain-fighting techniques and can remove almost any stain from our fabric inventory. Shirley oversees a crew of up to seven people during peak season and will make sure your linens and dishware are sanitized and ready to use when you receive them.

Shirley is a proud mother, sister, grandmother, and great-grandmother who enjoys spending time fishing or bingo when not fighting stains at Mullins. Since she also serves as a backup for other departments, she has earned the nickname "Super-Shirley."

Deneen Calavitta (2005)
Dishware Prep

Deneen Calavitta joined Mullins Special Occasions in 2005 and was "thrown into the fire," as we sometimes say, during one of our busiest times of the year. Deneen works with a team of up to 3 people who keep your dishware in tip-top shape. Every individual piece of dishware passes through this department for inspection, sanitation, and maintenance as it is returned from your event.

Deneen is the mother of four sons and has two young grandchildren. When not ironing your tablecloths or playing Grandma, Deneen loves everything sunflowers and leopard print!

Josh Manning (2010)
Tent Specialist
meet the staff

Josh Manning was thrown into the fire as the spring rush began in 2010. He proved himself by quickly learning both equipment AND procedures, and quickly mastered the position of Warehouse Supervisor. Josh not only stored, cleaned, and maintained the equipment, but he learned the canopies in such a way that it was only natural for him to take over as our Tent Specalist.

Josh has a son and daughter who makes life...well...interesting!  When not slinging tables at Mullins, Josh and his family can be found dropping a line in the Tennessee River.

Elizabeth Ramsey joined our family in September of 2018 and quickly became a team-player in the Prep Areas.  She trained with Shirley and Deneen on both linens and dishware, and quickly fine-tuned to focus on keeping your dishware clean and spot-free.  

Elizabeth is a true southern girl, raised in the outdoors hunting and camping.  She loves to enjoy life around family and friends, and she is proud of her 8 nieces and nephews.  She cherishes family and is happy to be a part of the team here at Mullins!
